Ted - In Studio - Bluebells, Rookwood.jpg

As an artist I want to create paintings that speak both to me and to others about the beauty that I see in the world. I love to paint landscapes and townscapes, particularly scenes in my home county of Hampshire and my favourite place to visit, the Lake District.

I am influenced greatly by artists such as Van Gogh, Kandinsky and Cezanne, and use bold colours and brushstrokes in my paintings in the hope to capture moods, emotions and also create a sense of connection to a location.

I usually capture the initial emotional response to a landscape with sketches and drawings which are then worked from back in my studio.

From the initial plein air tonal study to the finished painting, the process allows creativity to intervene at each step – whether selecting the colour palette to reflect first light at sunrise or darkening storming skies through to finalising compositional adjustments and surface textures.

My paintings are made by using a variety of mediums including acrylic, oil, gouache, oil pastel, ink, collage and pencil.

I have exhibited paintings at Winchester Cathedral and also the Business Design Centre, Islington, as winner of the Abstract and Experimental category for the Society for all Artists.

I am currently exhibiting some of my paintings in Fulflood Gallery, Winchester and Lakes Art Gallery, Grasmere.
